Winter is not a joy for all. It doesn’t just bring that red glow to the cheeks in some people; most of us suffer from dry skin of face, hands and skin. For some it is more irritating with a feel of tightness on the whole body. For some the skin cracks up and even goes eczematous. The heat turned on in doors also has that drying effect on the skin. So how does one take care of his skin in winter?
Here are a few tips that enable you avoid the effects of winter on your skin.
1) Seek a skin specialist:
Going to a skin specialist even once in a season is a good investment. No one around can give you a good skin advice than a dermatologist. He’ll at once get your skin type, troubleshoot your problems and advise you on the various skin products that you should be using in winter. 2) Moisturize more:

3) Slather on sunscreen:

4) Give your hands some care:
Hands are hard to keep moist in winters as they have thinner skin with fewer sweat glands compared to other parts of the body. Cover up your hands when you go out preferably with wool gloves so that the itchiness and scratching caused by the dryness can be avoided.
5) Avoid wet gloves and socks:
Wet socks and gloves serve as irritants and can cause itching, cracking, sore and even eczema.
6) Use humidifiers:
The central heating systems can cause dryness as they blow hot dry air. Place several humidifiers in your home so that the air may not damage the skin and deprive it off its moisture.
7) Hydrate for health not for skin:
It is often said that one should drink at least five or six glasses of water daily. This encompasses not only over skin needs but also our overall health requirements. The point here is that drinking water has not only got effects for skin but also effects the overall health.
8) Grease up your feet:
Winter dried skin needs much stronger lubricant care as opposed to the skin in summers. Try using lotions that have glycerin or use petroleum jelly instead. Use exfoliants so that the dead skin peels off periodically and may help the lubricants reach the deeper skin layers.
9) Pace the peels:
If the facial skin is excessively dry, avoid using masks, harsh peelers, alcohol based toners or astringents. All of these things can deprive your skin of the vital oil. Use cleansing milk or toner free of alcohol. Use deeply hydrated marks rather than clay based marks. The clay based masks tend to soak up the moisture out of the face and do more harm than good.
10) Ban super hot baths:
No doubt bathing in super hot baths in cold weather feels extremely soothing. But the intense shower heat breaks down those lipid barriers that can cause moisture loss. It’s better to use warm water or to just stay in hot water.
Lukewarm water with oatmeal or baking soda helps to aid dry skin that has become itchy. Applying a moisturizer can also help. If that doesn’t work you should opt going to a dermatologist. A prescription lotion may be needed to treat dry skin or may just not be simple dry skin and may need some treatment.
